My Approach

While my actual counseling technique does vary per client, I will always do honest counseling which I believe allows for personal exploration, education, and understanding. Counseling should encourage individuals to speak freely and openly about their personal stories within a nurturing environment where growth can take place. I believe that life can be a balancing act and we all need to find out what works the best for ourselves. My job is not to tell you what to think or feel but to challenge you to think about all of the options that can be available to you.

Education and Experience

I graduated from Doane College with a Masters in Counseling and am currently a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and a Provisionally Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. My undergraduate degree was in Psychology with a Mental Health Emphasis from Doane College in Crete, NE. I have worked in a variety of settings ranging from an intensive group home for teenage boys with behavioral disorders, an adult rehabilitation center for individuals which have been dually diagnosed, the public school system while working with children with behavioral and emotional disorders, at BryanLGH within the child/adolescent/adult/senior psychiatric unit and within a private practice. Over the last three years I have been working for CenterPointe in the Adult Residential Long Term program with clients that are experiencing severe and persistent mental illness including Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, Schizophrenia, PTSD, and other Anxiety Disorders. These clients also struggled with Personality Disorders and Substance Dependence. While working at CenterPointe, I maintained my private practice in the evenings and have been able to work more with families, couples, teens, and clients that are working through a number of topics and difficulties. I look forward to helping you find your path.
